Hi Jim,
Could Mary be called Mary Doris? There is this in the California Death Index:

Mary Doris Taylor
Birth date 12 Jul 1901
Death date: 19 Oct 1987
Death place: Lost Angeles county
Mother's Maiden: Young
Father's surname: Tate

SSDI has her last residence as Lakewood, Los Angeles county, California 90714

The age is way off of what she said when she entered Canada, though. Do you know the exact birth dates of all of these people? If so, you can search the SSDI with the birth date and it will make it much easier to find the correct people. If you post the birth dates it would also be helpful for those trying to help you.

With a death date and place, the next step would be to find a local newspaper with an obituary. The "survived by" list would tell you the names of and probably locations of living relatives.

As you know, we can't discuss living relatives on TS, so if anyone has any clues for Jim, please send him a PM instead of posting on the topic.

All the best,
Sarah

Thanks for that Sarah. I will locate and download Birth Extracts from SP which will give EXACT DsOB. When Jessie said she had no living relatives remaining in Scotland, she was being less than honest. But hey, who are we in 2012 to throw stones? We have all told little white untruths! O:)

Watch this enquiry for FACTUAL data to further my quest.

As suggested by Sarah, contact ONLY via PM if you can assist. Thank you in advanc for your consideration and assistance.

Apologies Sarah,
Don't bother about explaining SSDI to me - found it and it is relatively easy to navigate =D> . As I found only Catherine Ann TAIT in SSDI, it would appear other siblings stayed in Canada.

Thanks again.

Hello Jim,

In the Los Angeles Times, 20 November, 1948, there’s an obituary for Mrs. May Stewart Martin, 78, daughter of late Lyman Stewart, and widow of Dr Daniel H. Martin. She left a married daughter, and no sons. Her father, Lyman Stewart, was founder of the Union Oil Co. of California. She lived at the 1606 Virginia Road San Marino address shown twice in Catherine’s notes. The LA Times newspaper archive only goes up to 1989.

If she was working for the family for a long period of time, as a children’s nurse or domestic, maybe the family would have memories of her.

Hope that’s useful,

Hello Jim,

There’s nothing in my previous post that should trigger a PM. The only people mentioned are long gone, and the links are to information on external sites, put there by people craving attention, and easily found there by any old Googler, but not here.

Just for interest, here’s the family at their previous address in 1940. All long since dead, including the next-door neighbour. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... n538442452

All the best,
Alan
