Hi Trish,
Totally agree on family 'stories', this can so often lead up the proverbial garden path.
To some extent I only have my mum to get info from, if I don't get info from my mother basically a lot of the history is lost.
Although I have had contact with other family through Ancestry & Tribal I've had no further contact from them even though I've given info out, I have no close relatives left, mum really is the end of the line.
Through family disputes before I was born, I don't know any of my relatives which saddens me.
The old proverb goes 'you can choose your friends but not your family'.
I've been really excited to hear from relatives, to find no return conversation.(early days though)
This hasn't stop me.
First thing tomorrow I will be on the phone to NZ, I have the info now from BDM so will order Death Cert's for the 3 grgr grand parents.
I have my toes crossed too
Regards
Jasper

Re: ANDERSON .....
Hi Trish & Sarah
I will try again just deleted the whole message.
I have received a copy of the Death register for Sarah Jane, William Gee is the husband, father is Anderson, but unfortunately no first name for her mother. Her fathers occupation is a Joinery Smith Wheelwright (makes wooden wheels for carts) so i would say this is the correct father.
The Cert. was very hard to read.
Also there were a lot of children there that didn't match their children that I knew of, all I can think is that other family members were also living at the same address. there were 9 ranging from 10 years to 28 years of age, which well passes the children's ages I found on the NZ BDM site. So they may have been extended Gee or Anderson Family. I wish I could get info on the census records in NZ of the time.
Given the death notice I found on Papers Past NZ. I think every one was quite distressed.I was when reading it.
Sarah was 18 when married in 1865.
I found their marriage certificate that had been sent to me from a lady on Tribal Pages, thank you Ms Phillips, I didn't realize I had this as an attachment to the email. Fathers were George Gee & William Anderson.
Witness to the marriage was Alfred Thomas Anderson. As you had mentioned before.
At least I now know I have the correct Sarah Jane, now the toss up is to get the birth cert from UK. EEEEk
As you have suggested to go for the first quarter, thank you for your calculations on this. I'm hoping when I contact them that I get the right one. Problem is there is no listing for North shields as stated in the UK census you looked into.
I've searched the records of the siblings
Sarah Jane Anderson 1947 b1 Northampton 15 317 Northamptonshire/ Nottinghamshire
William Thomas Anderson 1839 b 4 Sunderland XXIV 255 Durham
Hannah Anderson 1842 b4 Chester le Street XXIV 29 Durham
Hannah Anderson 1843 b 3 New castle Tyne XXV 349 Northumberland
Hannah Anderson 1843 b 3 South Shields XXIV 202 Durham
At least these 3 are close by on counties
John Fuller Anderson 1849 b 2 W Derby XX 1069 Lancashire
I reflect back to a Greek friend of mine in Australia he was born on 1st Aug 1957 but due to being in the country in Greece his birth wasn't registered till Nov 1957. so on his birth cert that is his birth date!!
This may have been the case in England in the 1800's. This could explain my questioning the BMD indexing.
Now all I have to do is to figure out how to apply for the birth Cert of Sarah Jane, through the UK site.
I also ordered the death certificates for my Irish side the register was so much easier to read & I have the parents names & occupations that are stated out clearly. Still can't find any info on the census for these times.
I have joined the UK Genealogy site & paid for look ups to fine that I can find most of it free in other places, but not so much the case in Ireland.
So that will be my next venture. Or it may just stop there as the Irish side is quite difficult given records being destroyed, and not knowing the exact parishes they were born in.
If there is anything you can add for hesitance for me I would very much appreciate it. In say this you have helped me immensely with your generosity & knowledge.
Kindest Regards
Jasper Gee

Hi Jasper
I'm overwhelmed with reading all you have done. I'm somewhat tied up at the minute so haven't yet had time to study your post in detail - however you mentioned wanting to buy certificates from England - this is the link to order them online

hope that helps
