paperspast site revamp

Post by grannysrock » Wed Sep 05, 2007 12:03 am

The very wonderful paperspast site has been revamped
www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

Papers Past contains more than one million pages of digitised New Zealand newspapers and periodicals. The collection covers the years 1840 to 1915 and includes publications from all regions of New Zealand.
There are some new titles and 17 titles are now searchable . The remainder can be browsed by date as before.

Thanks Sally,

That’s great news.

Papers Past is a Free site provided by the National Library of New Zealand and is an excellent example of citizen’s interests being given precedence over revenue collection.

Another example of this approach is the National Archives of Australia which has the complete files of all WW1 service men and women online Free for all to view and titled "A Gift to the Nation".

It really is a fantastic site. I wish there were more like them. Good to see a search has now been added as browsing was quite a labourious process.
