REQUEST FOR MARRIAGE LOOK-UPs - DUNEDIN

Post by q98 » Tue Sep 25, 2007 3:09 pm

May I request two marriage look-ups (or is the plural "looks-up"?) for the following two brothers (my great-uncles):

a. In probably Dunedin, Hugh McCREADIE (b. 29 Apr 1902, Ardrossan, Scotland) married May LOCKHART (b. c 1904, Scotland). Marriage Ref. 4157 (do not know what that means). Lady's forenames may be Elizabeth May or May Elizabeth. Before I search for her Birth Extract, I should be sure of her forenames.

b. In 1943, in probably Dunedin, John McCREADIE (b. c 1904, probably Ardrossan, Scotland) married Susie HOLLAND (b. c 1901). Marriage Ref. 11619.

I have located all four individuals buried in Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Regards and thanks.

Hi Jim

I saw your post and want to help you out. I had a look on the NZ marriage indexes and found that your rellie Hugh McCREADIE married Elizabeth May LOCKHART in 1935. Where is not stated on the index; you would have to get the actual certificate or a photocopy to find that out. John McCREADIE married Susie HOLLAND in 1943, and again, the index doesn't say where.

My brother works in WA - up in Karratha. Comes out every 6 weeks for r+r.

Blessings, Fiona
I'm currently researching Sutherland, Davidson, Baillie (Kilsyth), Wilson (Dunoon), Paton (Dunoonn) in Scotland.

Hi Fiona (there's a guid Scottish forename), many, many thanks. You have confirmed her forenames as Elizabeth May and added Year of Marriage.

I located Elizabeth May's burial in Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin at the following site http://www.cityofdunedin.com/public/reg ... url_form+F
Her address was noted as "45 Buccleigh Street, N.E.V.". I have been told by a old Kiwi that N.E.V. should be "North East Valley". Do you know if this is correct please?

Spent a few months working in Karratha myself some time ago - didn't fancy it despite the BIG money as I'd had my fill of separation from my family thanks to 25 years military service.

Kindest regards and again, many thanks.

Jim

Hi Jim

Yes NEV does mean North East Valley - your source is right. Yes big money to be earned in Karratha but the tax rate is high too, so my bro tells me...
