Hi iluvu2
Qld records are online for searching only but dont give much information. The brief information on young John is he died 1883 aged 9 months born in New Monkland. You can order certs but they are not cheap at all.

I dont think Shanks would be too common a name either, best of luck.

Hello iluvu2,
I’ll put in a link to your other post. viewtopic.php?t=10829 in particular see post by Alison on 14th December.
Birth and Death info from http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/IndexSearch.htm
Queensland Births
Reg #, Family name, Given name, Fathers given names, Mothers names.
1893/C009157, Shanks, Isabella, Robert, Margaret Rankin
1891/C009603, Shanks, Margaret Rankin, Robert, Margaret Rankin
1896/C008922, Shanks, Jeannie, Robert, Margaret Rankin
1884/C006122, Shanks, Mary Hunter, Robert, Margaret Ranker
1886/C007150, Shanks, Alexander, Robert, Margaret Ranker
1888/C008685, Shanks, Frederick, Robert, Margaret Ranker
Queensland Deaths
Reg #, Family name, Given name, Fathers given names, Mothers names.
1909/C001618, Shanks, Robert, Robert Shanks, Margaret Rankin
1883/M002063, Shanks, John Rankin, Robert Shanks, Margaret - ** born New Monkland aged 9 months
If you search the marriages you’ll find them for the children. You can then go back to births and search for children of those marriages up to 1914. That way you can build up a basis of a tree of the Queensland group.
You can check Records Search at the Australian Archives http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/ResearcherScreen.asp
There appears to be a large WW1 file for Frederick born 1888 and you could check for others including the spouses of the girls.
That will give you a good base to work from.
Hope this helps,
Alan

Hello Alan
Good bit of research there, I only did a very limited search on the site due to time restraints. (I should have been doing something else at the time
)
I should have mentioned the Pioneer Index and the Federation Index, I dont have ready access to either of them they are in the state library, and there tooooo expensive to purchase. I dont know what the Federation Index hold anyway.

Hello Stewie,
Most of what I posted is just what Alison came up with before. I think the Qld Federation Index is the same as what’s online, except it might show the full date of the event. Not sure offhand about later stuff.
I have relatives in Queensland and my research there is relatively undeveloped mainly because of the limited BMD online info but especially because of the absence of anything like the Ryerson newspaper index and local access to newspaper archives. However I’m sure the online Queensland BMD will expand substantially, and then there’s the Australian Newspapers Digitisation Project, so I just hope I’m still around when it all happens.
That Archives file is actually under the name of Fredrick (no e). He was born in Bundamba Qld., now a suburb of Ipswich. He initially put his mother, Margaret, living Lindsay St. as NOK and later nominated his wife. There are still Shank’s living in Bundamba, in Ipswich itself and possibly other nearby suburbs. You could almost bet these are relatives. For details see Australian White Pages. The map on the site, when expanded will show other possibly relevant suburbs. http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/index.jsp
All the best and Happy New Year,
Alan
LATER,
In case anyone is wondering. Ipswich City area is about 1200 square kms, with a population of about 150,000 and is located about 40 kms West of Brisbane.

There are 2 Qld CDs Pioneer Index to 1889 and Federation to 1914. They have the same information as online - except the online year is the registered year & the CDs also include actual dates. This can be handy as sometimes folks were registered some time after the event.
Fiche of Births to 1919, marriages to 1939 and deaths to 1964 are available at libraries, archives and similar.
The Ipswich City Council will do a search of cemetery records for a single surname for $10 (well that was a few years ago - may have increased). There are also CDs of Ipswich burials & I think MIs available at Family history libraries etc.
www.ipswich.qld.gov.au
If anyone wants any specific dates from the BDM CDs I am happy to check same.
Some of the family may be in Brisbane Cemetries which can be searched online.

In more recent times Funderal notices from the Courier Mail (Brisbane) have been indexed on the Ryerson Index.

Re: F.A.O. Trish
I don't have access to any "Ipswich deaths" as such, I provided the links in case you wanted to follow them through. You can check whether any were buried in Brisbane as per the link I gave to Brisbane Cemeteriesiluvu2 wrote:Trish ,I was wondering if you could find any of my Shank,s on the Ipswich Deaths you will see their names on the earlier posts by Alan and Stewie,Thanking you so much if you can oblige
The two deaths that are on the CDs mentioned above
1909/C001618, Shanks, Robert, Robert Shanks, Margaret Rankin
died 20 April 1909
1883/M002063, Shanks, John Rankin, Robert Shanks, Margaret - ** born New Monkland aged 9 months
Date of death is given as 31 January 1883 - code MA - which I think is a Marine Death - so he may have died before they arrived.
