Hi, I hope I'm not intruding but I have been searching for information on the above couple and have yet to find anything. They emigrated to Australia (Adelaide) as a married couple with a young daughter, Helen, in 1854 on the Dirigo. I believe Sarah came from Alloa.
If anyone can help me with some information on their lives before they left Sctland I would be very appreciative. If anyone else happens to be researching them I have some interesting material about their lives in Australia.
Of course if I have any second cousins there I'd be especially interested.
Thanks,
John & Sarah Duncanson (nee)Sharp .....

Hi Barkerdale
Welcome to TalkingScot! This is probably repetitive info but the IGI shows two births to this couple
1. MARY TURCAN DUNCANSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 16 OCT 1853 Tulliallan, Perth, Scotland
2. HELEN DUNCANSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 05 OCT 1851 Tulliallan, Perth, Scotland
and also a marriage in Alloa
JOHN DUNCANSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 13 DEC 1850 Alloa, Clackmannan, Scotland
Unfortunately all these records are before 1855 and Statutory registration so contain limited information. Have you obtained their marriage cert just to confirm that it lists no interesting info? I've heard that sometimes you get lucky!! Also....do you have information on who their parents were from John & Sarah's death records in Australia?? John and Sarah may be able to be found on the 1851 and 1841 Scottish census records....
Best wishes
Jean
PS...Sorry but they're no relation to me so haven't got any hidden cousins to share with you

Duncanson, Sharp
Thanks for your quick responses. That is fantastic! There had been a rumour/myth in the family that a son was on board the Dirigo with Helen but no evidence exists to support it.
Helen was the only child on the ship with John & Sarah Duncanson I think.
But that creates another mystery - what happened to Mary Turcan Duncanson who would have only been about 12 months old when the rest of the family embarked?
Anyway in case anyone who reads this is interested Helen lived until 29/9/1944 having married a John Smith (b 16/12/1844 near Newmachar). His mother was Helen Cochran (b 1809 and buried in the Kirkyard of Newmachar) so the "echo" may have borne fruit?
John Duncanson was drowned and Sarah remarried a James Sim - also from Alloa.
I am a descendant of John Duncanson.
I have quite a deal of info of the descendants of the couple.
Thanks again,
