Help or Advice .....

Post by Andy » Wed Oct 05, 2005 9:12 am

Any Kiwis out there willing to give advice?

Though not related, I'm trying to track down a family from Rathlin Island, Ireland, who moved to New Zealand aboard the "Conflict" (I know not when).

Archibald McKinley was born on Rathlin 2nd September 1850. He married Margaret Black in N.Z. about 1880. Margaret was, possibly, also from Rathlin.

They produced 7 children that I know of but at least one, John, probably died young:

John 1881
Archibald David 1883
Alfred 1885
James 1887
Jack 1889
Margaret 1891
Mary 1893

Archibald David married Louisa Compton in 1914.

Thats all I have on the family but if anyone can help me pad out any further details I'd be very grateful.

I have lines for this family going back to the early 1700s (which is no mean feat for Ireland). I'm just hoping that there is some sort of trail to be found, I've not got very far in my searches in Australia or N.Z but know that a good few Rathlin Islanders moved there.

Any help or advice is MOST WELCOME.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hello Andy,

Seems like the "Conflict" pulled into a number of ports in NZ. Had a brief look at this site ...

http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/s ... ig-nz2.htm

which seems to be a good resource? There are a few McKinley's about in Otago/Southland

Regards

Stephan

Andy,

just a thought but unrelated to your quest. Did you know that there is a very well known family of singers here in Ireland, the Black Family, who came originally from Rathlin Island. In particular Mary Black and Frances Black each have international solo careers while also singing as the Black Family.
