Advice please! .....

Post by fmackay » Fri Jan 06, 2006 10:09 pm

I have the date of death of my great uncle who died in Australia in 1925 - I'm trying to decide whether to send for a copy of the certificate which is going to cost me 30 - 40 australian dollars plus bank charges for an international money order. Is there a way of viewing the certifcate either online or in person which wouldn't cost so much? Not that I grudge the money but if there was a cheaper way I would go for it.
He died in the Katanning district in WA.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Hi Ros
thanks for your reply
My great uncle died 0n 10 November 1925 in I believe the Katanning(?)district.
His parents names were Hugh Mackay(died 1909)mother was Annie(Ann)Mackay maiden name Mackay from Aird,Skerray, district of Tongue,Sutherland. His date of birth was 26 Nov 1885.Not sure what his occupation would be - possibly farmer - but not sure.
thanks
Fiona

Hi Fiona,

No Mackay listings in the cemetery in Perth for Katanning so he must be buried there. There are 91 MacKay listings in the phone book for the Katanning area which is in the south west of the state. I will phone a couple for you later on. Early Sunday morning here.

Can I have his name and were his parents here also.

You can print out a form for a death certificate and pay by credit card.
$40 is very expensive and a rip off for a piece of paper.

Hi Stewie,

It must be the Scot in me. In Victoria, Australia the fee is $17.50 so there is no justification for $40.

Hi Ros

Yes, there is not justification for that cost here in the West.
I just heard on the news (radio) that our esteemed state treasurer :?:
Is talking about increasing taxes and charges to fund hospitals, so what happened to our huge budget surplus? and the so-called reduction in those said taxes and charges

Hi Stewie,

Ripper being the name of the Western Australian Treasure. Now isn't that appropriate.

Death in Western Austalia

Hi Ros
No his parents wern't with him.
Family story is that one of his brother's went out to Australia aswell, not sure when, that's another search I haven't even contemplated starting yet!
Again family story is that he named his property after the place he was born(Aird)but not sure if that's correct.

I haven't been able to find James's emigration details, he was there before the first world war as I have his war records.
According to them his address was Wagin WA
As a metter of interest if his father had been alive would he have been automatically listed as his next of kin?

I was under the impression from the form that being overseas I would have to send a money order. If i could pay by credit card it would be much easier. Have I picked that up wrong?
