Hi Dennis
From the very little experience I've had of looking up BMDs in Australia I think you would need to know what area the event occurred in - a bit like the UK I suppose where you would need to know if it happened in Scotland, England Ireland or Wales!

Best wishes
Lesley

Best wishes

Hi Dennis

All BDM data in Australia is expensive (and Vic is close to the cheapest!). Post civil registration, however, it is very useful as it contains much data (similar to the Scottish records of 1855 only). Pre civil registration, it is a gamble as to what may be available (often very little). This site gives details for what is available for each state

If you are interested in early Australian records, and live outside Australia, you can purchase the LDS Aust Vital Records Index, for around $US9 - I believe about 7 pounds in UK. This contains indexs for NSW WA TAS and Victoria for most of the 19th century. Your marriage index is there as

GALPEN, George Marriage WEEKES, Wilhelmina Jane 1854 No 406
