Hello Zero and welcome to TS

I am just going to post this link http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight= to show members that there is another post about your James Gauld (saves too many repeated threads  )

Good luck in your search

Hi Zero

Do you have a time frame for the immigration to Australia and approx age of the people involved ? Also - you said you were unsure as to which brother - Do you have some parent names - Many of the death indexes in Australia (at least in the Eastern States) contain parent names.

From your other thread, I am assuming this is the couple married 1900 - so the immigration would have been well into the 20th century.
Birth records in Australia are only available until about 1920 in most states, so it wouldn't be possible to find anyone through births. Deaths are available to a much later date - depending on the state - but I gather from the other posts, these folks may still be living.

You can check for living folks in Oz via the white pages
www.whitepages.com.au - but it does help to at least know the state.

Immigration 1900-1930 is often difficult to find as responsibility for same was passing from State to Federal govt.

Immigration post WWII is available via the national archives
www.naa.gov.au - go to record search & search as a guest. War service records are also available on this site if it is possible your relative was in the Australian services in WWII.

There is a record for a Maurice Stephen Gauld - born Aberdeen 1912 - but different to the usual service records? - the description of the record is Applications for permission to remain in Australia upon discharge from the British Armed Forces lodged both in Australia and abroad

Also an immigration record for a John William Gauld born 1906
(just found his death in Victoria, I think - wrong parents)

I cannot see any deaths in NSW (to 1975) or Vic to 1985 that seem to fit.

Have just been told by a cousin of my father that the member of the Cole family that emigrated to oceania was the son(name not known) of Harry Cole (deceased)

was told that he emigrated to New Zealand but that he may since (or his family)have moved to Australia
