Dobbie .....

Post by kdobbie » Thu Oct 26, 2006 1:47 am

I am presently attempting to put it all together for the Dobbie's in Australia. In particular James Dobbie= Janet Vickers who emigrated to Australia in 1852 on the "Medina" and his brother Thomas Dobbie=Margaret Frazer who arrived on the "Macedon" in 1853. They were government assisted migrants to South Australia and landed in Port Adelaide . They were both listed as coal miners and James was employed in Scarsdale Victoria up to about 1862 (this is a gold mining town near Ballarat). I can find no record of where his brother Thomas settled or information on his wife and children. They perhaps also went to Victoria (1850 was the time of the Victorian gold rush). James eventually settled in Newcastle NSW and worked in coal mining and I have a reasonable lead on him and his wifeand children. At least one of James Dobbie's children were born in Victoria (Ramsay).

I would like to find George Vickers Dobbie's birth details.(son of James and Janet)

Thomas Dobbie is a bit of a mystery. Any leads would be most valued. I suspect both brothers worked the gold fields until it all ran out.

Regards

Ken Dobbie

Hi there,

wondered if you'd be interested to know my neighbour's maiden name was Dobbie, she was born on a property near Marion S.A.

She has been attempting to research her father's ancestry...he was a stockman.

Cheers,

Gill
