A contact in Sydney gave me this website address which doesn't seem to be on any forum. It may be of interest to someone.

BDM in New South Wales
Hi Rae
Thank-you for that info. I checked as I always do for my Great-great Aunt who was on the 1871 Census, married in Scotland had two children and then disappeared. Easy to follow instructions filled out death enquiry, left out parents names just in case, and there she was. Well I think it is her as it did not give parents surname, but the given names were correct. I also checked for a marriage for her daughter and again it turned up with correct parents given names. Now trying to find out how I can get a copy sent to me. I am really grateful. Never thought I would find them. Will have to go and look at passenger lists for NSW.

Liz,
That's terrific! I didn't think the link would be so useful already. It is such a buzz when you find out something you have been searching for for ages.
Glad to have helped.

If you look at the posting above - Aust and NZ resources - it points to this thread
http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9596
which has many many Australian links including BDM data for a number of the states. If you have found any information on the NSW site and want to buy a certificate, note that you can buy a transcript somewhat cheaper - the link for that is also provided on the above.
Eastern Australian Certificates (NSW QLD VIC) contain data very similar to 1855 Scotland certificates, so they can be very useful, noting that some of the earlier civil certificates from NSW unfortunately have data missing. From about 1880 onwards they usually have all the detail. Civil registration in NSW started 1855, Vic 1853, Qld abt 1861 - prior to that most certificates are church register information only.

Hi there,
The link above has been on TS in the past. I used it 2 years ago to find info on my rellies. There is another site that gives the addys for all the different Gov BMD sites for the different states in Oz .
http://www.coraweb.com.au/bdmaut.htm
Another interesting site for deaths in NSW is the Ryerson's Index of Obits in the local papers .

Happy Hunting,
