McConnachy in Australia .....

Post by McConnachy » Sat Jan 06, 2007 1:04 am

I believe there may be 3 McConnachy brothers from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire who came to Australia in the c.1870's.

One is my GG grandfather - Peter McConnachy - who was a shipwright and lived in Goolwa, Mannum and Renmark in South Australia.

The second bcame ship's captain sailing ships between Adelaide and Melbourne including the Kalhome and the Blackbird. I think he famously ran aground the Blackbird near Port Albert in Victoria - this is now a well-known divesite.

The third is James McConnachy who lived in South Australia but I know less about.

I have not been able to discover when any of these actually left Scotland for Australia.

I'd be interested if anyone has any information on possible shipping records in 1870's to Australia or information on any of the McConnachy family members.

Doe sanyone know of Peter McConnachy (sometimes referred to as McConnachie) in South Australia?

He worked on paddlesteamers (as a carpenter) up the Murray River including in Goolwa, Mannum and Renmark. He and his wife may also have owned a boarding house in Renmark. :?:

Hi

Did the Mc Connachy's emigrate to South Australia or another state ? If they came to South Australia first i could do a lookup for you in the South Australian Biographical Index which MAY give you the name of the ship they came on and the year.
