Hi Jan,

What year and whereabouts? What age was the father (to give an idea when to expect the son's birth to have occurred)?

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Justjan:

I'll grasp at straws along with you ...

There is a George H. Stewart in the IGI for the 1881 census, living in London, age 5. Perhpas the family lived there for awhile, then returned to Scotland?

Birth Year <1876>
Birthplace Scotland
Age 5
Occupation Scholar
Marital Status
Head of Household George H. STEWART
Relation Son
Disability

Source Information:
Dwelling 10 Collier St
Census Place London, Middlesex, England
Family History Library Film 1341076
Public Records Office Reference RG11

Have you looked at the census for Scotland, prior to his leaving for Africa?
