Death in Burma c 1865

Post by bagpipinglady » Sun Dec 05, 2010 6:37 pm

Any idea where I might find a reference or document recording the death of an Ann (Bremner) Robb who went with her military husband to Burma in c1863/4 with a small child William, had another child and died soon after. Have been unable to find a record of this.
Heron and Murray in Galloway, Smith and Mill in Aberdeen and Galloway, Templeton and Elliot in Lanarkshire and Dumfriesshire, Watson and Douglas in Dumfriesshire, Scott and Maxwell in Kirkcudbrightshire.

Hello Bagpipinglady,

Rangoon and southern Burma were incorporated into British India in 1853. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma

From your earlier post the soldier was William Robb. What Regiment of Foot was he a member of and do you know the date of return to the UK etc. viewtopic.php?f=32&t=15568&hilit=burma

I saw a death notice in the The Dundee Courier & Argus, Wednesday, May 01, 1872, for a John C. Robb, engineer, Burmah government, age 30, son of late James Robb, bootmaker, Dundee. Died at Rangoon etc. It may be useful to see if his death turns up anywhere.

FamilySearch has an India Deaths and Burials database but doesn’t look promising https://beta.familysearch.org/s/collect ... PRagg%253D

The Families in British India site can sometimes be useful http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/index.php

I think FindMyPast has Army births around that time. I don't know about deaths. Any luck with the child born in Burma?

Probably not much help,
Alan
