FLOWER SHOP IN GLASGOW OWNED BY FAIRLEY FAMILY

Post by Sparrowlady » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:11 pm

I am hoping someone can help me please. I am trying to research my sister in law's maternal family in Glasgow, who were called Fairley and owned a fruit/flower shop in the mid 1900's.

I am told the family were from Knightswood, and then moved to Shettleston (sp?) but not sure where the shop would have been.

Where do I even start??

Hello Sparrowlady, and Welcome to TalkingScot.

You could also try the Glasgow Herald at Google News Archive, but only a limited range of 20th Century years is available online.

There are several references there to the name Fairley. One, in the Glasgow Herald, June 18, 1959, is to do with a Roma Fairley at a flower show, although I suspect this one isn’t a florist.

But if you’re only at the starting point of your research you probably should try to go down the traditional route as set out here. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Conte ... px?r=551&1

All the best,
Alan
