In the west of Scotland, this will be offered with salt and vinegar. In the east of Scotland, that will be salt and sauce. This sauce is only to be found in chippies - usually like brown sauce diluted with vinegar - very tasty, honest.
JustJean wrote:Hauf Loaf
A plain loaf, not one of these flavourless pan loaves.
JustJean wrote:Haggis and neeps
Must be the traditional one from an animal, not the veggie haggis - leave that for the vegetarians. (Rabbie Burns would be birlin' in his box at the thocht.)
JustJean wrote:How mah daein?
No too bad.
JustJean wrote:Whit else???
Cullen Skink
(Scotch) Pie
(Forfar) Bridie
Cranachan

If you're not counting calories or cholesterol, some chippies will do you a deep-fried Mars Bar.

All the best,

It is tragic what was done to Ballochmyle House.
I still have vague memories of it , - particularly the beautiful main staircase, - because it was used for staff accommodation, - Alan McLean was a houseman at the hospital before he became one of Catrine's GPs.

Being related to a local GP we were always well supplied

Hi Namesake

Can't be bought in the shops, but you have to try stovies with oatcakes.

A friend or relie should be able to make stovies for you (basically tatties, onions and beef dripping) Pieces of left over meat can be added. i.e. roast beef or roast lamb leftovers or even sausages!

Oh stop. Square sausage, plain loaf, tattie scones thin and soft enought to roll. It's enough to drive a body made.

Does anyone else remember picking rose hips every autumn to take to school for pennies. The Delrosa lorry used to pick them up every Monday. When I tell people down here about that they look at me as if I were daft.
