Glasgow location

Can any kind soul indicate to me where in Glasgow, Broomhill Street might have been located? I believe it was in Ward 8 which puts us in the general direction of the Catherdral/north of George Square etc.

Can anyone be more specific?

Hi there,

According to this 1885 map of Glasgow, the 8th Ward was between Central and Blackfriars.

My eyes weren't good enough to spot Broomhill Street.

A search for Broomhill Street on the 1881 census returned Enumeration District 644-6 which was St Rollox.

Broomhill Street can be seen on the following map on The Glasgow Story website.

It is towards the top of Ward VIII, between Canal Street and James Street.

It is on the map that Nina gave, but unfortunately is not named there.

You guys are the best. I actually have a map where it shows up, but could I spot it.

Looks like it was flattened to make way for the M8 motorway (junction 16).

As Andrew observed, Broomhill Street was indeed demolished.
Not that there were too many houses.
I would be very surprised if the family were not employed by the Glasgow/Broomhill foundry.
Which was owned by the Law family.
There were two Duncan McNaughtan's (father and son) employed in the iron works and they lived in Broomhill Street in the 1870/90s
The living accommodation was dire to say the least in the area.

Davie, you mentioned the Law family owning the Broomhill foundry. Can you shed anymore light on those Laws? I am related to a few Law family members who owned foundries in the Glasgow area: Pinkston Foundry, J & A Law Ltd, Broomhill Foundry on Dobbies Loan, and I believe Rae Street Foundry (not sure if that is a name, or a location, or both).

Law Foundry inquiry
My great great grandfather. Alexander Law was an engineer and according to family folklore and photos worked on the Forth Bridge. I am trying to see if there is a link between the Law Family Foundries (J. & A. Law, Rae Street Foundry, Broomhill Foundry, Pinkston Foundry) and the Forth Bridge.
My grandfather etc.. was James Law-Alexander Law(1859-1905), Alexander Law(1822-1881), John Law (1791-)

Are there ware's found in the market for sale? I have only seen the "L" in a diamond makers mark online in collections.
