James Wilson and Jean Hadden's marriage certificate shows they were married in the District of Heriot and Warriston in the City of Edinburgh on 4 July 1855 at 19 Noward Place by the Rev William Glover, Minister of Greenside Parish Church. Both James and Jean were residents of Haddington. I am curious why 19 Noward Place?
Appreciate any help

Re: Marriage place
Many marriages were conducted in one of three places
1. The Ministers home (manse)
2. The Brides Home
3. Some public place booked for the occasion (rarer)
Have you checked the home address of the bride ? or failing that the Minister.

Hi Dannemois,
![TS welcome [TS_welcome]](./images/smilies/TS_welcome.png)
Note - this address will be 'Howard Place' - it may look like Noward Place by the handwriting of the registrar.
On looking at the Valuation Rolls on ScotlandsPeople, you find 19 Howard Place was the address of the Reverend Glover. On that basis, it fits #1 in Falkryn's list - the manse.
19 Howard Place can be found on Google Maps Streetview opposite the junction of Inverleith Terrace: a Georgian terraced house.
Although both parties gave their addresses as Haddington on the marriage certificate, it may be that one of them [most likely the bride] had come from the Greenside area of Edinburgh before going to Haddington. Have you found them as a couple on the 1861 census, and if so, using the information found there, can you find them on the 1851 census and see if that was Edinburgh for one of them.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Marriage place
Many thanks, Falkryn and AndrewP
For some reason, I could not use the Edinburgh Post Office Directories online for the past few days, but I went straight on today and found the clip attached confirming that Rev William Glover resided at 19 Howard Place.

Hi Dannemois,
I take it that the PO Directories that you wee using were on the National Library of Scotland [NLS] website. That website was offline all weekend while planned maintenance was done on the main library building in Edinburgh - all of their mains electricity was switched off.
All the best,
AndrewP
