Isabella Forrest married John's father William a baker, 4 Jun 1837 Shott, Lanark.
She married James Downie a baker, Jan 1844 Airdrie
On SP I find a son born to them John Downie 18 Oct 1844, Airdrie. Ch; 3 Nov 1844 The United Associat, Airdrie. [under other churches]
I can not find any more on this child.
1851 census has Isabella, James now a Spirit dealer / baker, "step" son John Ferguson age 13 and a daughter Flora Downie age 4 ,Airdrie.
I can not find Flora's birth or death. I have read through every Downie child born in the time frame on SP.
James dies 17 Apr 1859, he is now a Innkeeper at Dunnon. I think at this time he was a very unhappy man. cause of death; "Exhaustion from drinking -2 weeks". James has a short will, nice writing but hard to make sense of. "Step" son John is mention a lot also Isabella and one interesting new name, daughter Helen Downie. Is she from a previous relationship or James and Isabella's daughter - can't fin her.
In 1872 John Ferguson names his daughter Helen Downie Ferguson. Isabella lives in Donnon to her death in 1893.

Re: Furgeson, Forrest to Downie
Is there any sign of the remaining family group/members in the 1861 or 1871 censuses? These could help fill in some blanks (or bring you some new questions).

When you say he died in Dunnon and she in Donnon - did you mean DUNOON in Argyllshire?

Re: Furgeson, Forrest to Downie
I've had a quick look in the 1861 census on Ancestry and see in Dunoon:
17 Hill Foot Street, Dunoon
. . Isabella Downie, age 40, head of household, innkeeper, born Whitburn (West Lothian)
. . Helen Downie, age 14, daughter, born Airdrie (Lanarkshire)
. . Elizabeth Twaddell, age 16, servant, domestic servant, born New Monkland (Lanarkshire)
And in the 1871 census at Blain Cottage, Dunoon:
. . Isabella Downie, age 54, head of household, , born Whitburn (West Lothian)
. . Mary Black, age 12, servant, scholar, born Dunoon (Argyll)
On ScotlandsPeople, there is a death for Helen Downie, age 16, Dunoon, in 1863, mother's maiden surname Forrest. Hopefully the death certificate, that you can view on SP, will verify her parentage. Going by the census info, I would be surprised if it is not James and Isabella.
In 1881, Isabella is described as a retired hotel-keeper (Blain Cottage), and in 1891 she is described as 'kept by son', although he is not at the same address (Cambridge Villa).
Her death certificate is indexed under the three surnames Forrest, Ferguson and Downie.

Re: Ferguson, Forrest to Downie
Thank you
- that is my Helen. She died 18 Oct. 1863 age 16 and a bit, Diphteria 8/9 days. The age also make it possibly that she is the child "Flora" on the 1851 census??? I would expect her christening to come under "other churches" as both brothers where there. John Ferguson did take a long time to appear there. Are they still working on this pages?
DUNOON in Argyllshire -YES
In some census Isabella is born in Prestonkirk and in the 1861 she is born in Whithburn?
