McFarland

Post by C Douglas Elliott » Wed Mar 11, 2020 11:27 pm

I am looking for information on the McFarland Family of Cambuslang, Lanarkshire. Archibald McFarland married Mary Snedden. Their son, Andrew McFarland was born on 16 Dec 1840 in Cambuslang. Some records have an alternate name: McFarlane. Andrew came to America in 1856.

Do check on Scotlands People for the original documents.
You'll find spellings varied a lot.

Did only Andrew go to America? or did the whole family?
If his parents remained in Scotland, you may be able to find their deaths, after 1855 the records should show their parents' names too, which will help you jump back a generation.

SP Old parish records have your Andrew's birth:

MCFARLANE ANDREW ARCHIBALD MCFARLANE/MARY SNEDDEN FR279 (FR279) M 07/06/1840 627/20 58 Cambuslang

or rather his baptism/christening record.

You don't mention what documents you do have, or where you have gleaned your information.
