If it's any consolation....after your complaint I logged in and attempted the same maneuver (Which you are absolutely correct in that it was doable under the old site!!!)
.....anyhow.....we all know the answer now. One more little bitty thing that has been altered <sigh>. If we honestly stood a chance of getting it put back the way it used to be I'd cry loud and long...but I suspect it's just the way it's gonna be.........
Best wishes

there is no difference to viewing previous searches and images. What has changed is the ability to decide to view an image for the first time based on your previous search, i.e. to spend 5 credits when your time has expired. This was undocumented, but pointed out a few times by someone on the SP discussion group.

John

Because I do most of my research on the weekends, I had gotten into the habit of purchasing a lot of credits at a time on SP - viewing lists of possibles and then going back at a later time to select the ones that looked like matches to the lines. Often that was well after my time had expired, but I had the credits in the account to continue at my own pace. I was frustrated to encounter the current situation - suddenly, and I completed a contact form as well.
Thought you might be interested in the reply I received today.

Good afternoon,
At no time in the past were you able to use credits once the search time has
expired - this has never changed since day one.
It is possible obviously that you were looking at previous searches & images
but certainly not new ones.
No changes have been made to this.
Regards
Alison

Do the staff of SOL / SP actually use the site as a paying customer would? Are the staff with Scottish ancestry given the opportunity to research their family trees and learn the ins and outs of searching for records? Is the earth really flat?

As to the first two questions, not as far as I know. The only person with actual, long-term genealogical experience of whom I'm aware is the wife of the MD of SP.
There are a number of staff in GROS who have excellent knowledge of how to search the GROS records at NRH, but aren't always fully aware of the on-line situation, or the most efficient strategies across NRH, GROS on-line, and other on-line and CD records.
Members of the UG do what we can, but it's a frustrating process at times as it can take from one UG meeting to the next, and beyond, to get over a point and see action taken.
For instance, right from the beginning the UG argues for the female death index cross-check search.................
As to your thrid question it certainly looks curved from 36,000 feet, but then maybe that's just an optical illusion

Philosophy
Hello Laura (with a nod to Davie),
facts do not exist on their own: they exist only because humans agree on an interpretation of events. Only by agreeing that light travels in straight lines (ok, except when bent by gravity) can we agree that the earth is curved.
It follows that only if SP agree with us will it become a fact: until then, we will remain flat-earthers. Davie used a couple of superfluous words when he wrote "frustrating process at times".
By the way, I have had no reply from the two people contacted at SP, but in fairness it is the holiday season and they are frequently out of the office.
Regards,
John

Re: Philosophy
Thank you, John. I know that I am a "hands on" learner. I can memorize theory, but need the practical experience to understand something in any depth. Perhaps that is why the original scotsorigins and scotlandspeople discussion forums were so valuable to the customers of the fledgling scotlandspeople site. At times, I wish I could search the old forum for answers I know are there that would help when communicating with staff at SP.sporran wrote: It follows that only if SP agree with us will it become a fact: until then, we will remain flat-earthers.
All the best,
