Hi folks
I've been silent on this topic all along but have been reading all the various posts and listening to the complaints sent off to SP and the contact form answers given. It seemed as though there definitely was a big flaw somewhere and no one was taken the blame. But it wasn't happening to me so I couldn't really feel your pain.....until yesterday

. I have my home computer setup which runs XP and has 99% of my genealogy stuff in it....and then there is that 1% of the time I cheat and use my work computer for online stuff. The work one is an ancient beast still running Windows 98 and is surely destined for the great computerland in the sky before long.....but it had never had problems accessing, searching, viewing, or downloading images from SP until I tried yesterday.....

......and it got
STUCK. No great inconvenience as when I got home that evening I just logged on and viewed the image then and yes it was there in my previous searches and viewed images but I sure had never been able to view it! And I sure haven't updated or changed a single thing about the work computer either. So for what it's worth it felt good to know I wasn't alone with this problem.....but for also what it's worth.....I think SP has a massive problem on their hands that they had better get the high priced technicians hopping on. Contact form will be sent later today when I have a few mintues. It would be nice to have some real answers though......

Man, do I feel like a dunce. The reason I was getting no toolbar at the top of my java was because daft me had 'hide console' on. I don't recall ever setting it to that, but now I know that the problem was with me and not SP.
I've sent a note of apology to SP for thinking that the source of the problem lay with them.

Hello all,
behind the scenes, SP have been working on the ActiveX problem, and used as external testers two people who posted their problems here. They have identified a possible, only possible, solution that will be tested further in the very near future.
Separately, there was a very recent problem with the Java viewer, caused by a corrupt file supplied by a third party. This caused problems with the menu buttons, and has now been fixed.
Finally, thank you Dennis. I worked in technical support for many years, and as a colleague said: "People don't ring us up and say 'Everything's still fine, thank you very much'". The support people at SP will be very pleased to receive your communication.
Regards,
John

Dear All
A miracle has happened.
Logged onto SP -lo and behold -viewed my image –no freezing . Very strange as I haven’t made any changes although I did spend this morning browsing web sites to try to get more info. on active X problems.
I ‘d considered making the changes SP suggested, and the file deletion tried by Maggie but I usually wait until I’m absolutely certain before I do any technical jiggery pokery. – will wait and see if all remains problem free.
Am sending a contact to SP
