When studying OPR's of the Highlands I found that the Moray, Inverness and Aberdeen records of remote areas tended to show the name of the farm or croft of the bride/groom. This tended to be shown on the christenings of the children too. This was an enormous help in finding Frasers and McDonalds :D

When looking in a larger village or town, only the name of the village/town tended to be shown.

When searching in the Lowlands I have only ever found the name of the village or town mentioned.

This, could, of course, just be in the places I searched!!!

Best wishes
Jean

Hi All

Don't rush to check the OPR's yet. The site was down in preparation

Annette

I searched 1841, but there always seemed to be too many Alexander Falconers - I obviously didn't make the "tanner" connection (then again the last time I searched there was no occupation search). Unfortunately he died in England before 1851 (have not found that either) - had one daughter only, called Jane, so I had given up for a time. Mother & daughter Jane & Jane came to Australia & Jane Jnr is my husbands ggrandmother.

So thank you so very much - I wasn't expecting such a reply to my message (I'm not even sure why I mentioned I couldn't find the father) - but I much appreciate your posting. I'll check myself now to ensure this is the only tanner. (They were surely a family!)

Trish

NB I can search SP and look at previous searches etc - but for the OPR searches I tried nothing was found & attempting to bring up a previous OPR search also says nothing found. The other records seem to be available.

I think they haven't attached the OPR image database to the "front end" yet, that's all.
