I searched 1841, but there always seemed to be too many Alexander Falconers - I obviously didn't make the "tanner" connection (then again the last time I searched there was no occupation search). Unfortunately he died in England before 1851 (have not found that either) - had one daughter only, called Jane, so I had given up for a time. Mother & daughter Jane & Jane came to Australia & Jane Jnr is my husbands ggrandmother.
So thank you so very much - I wasn't expecting such a reply to my message (I'm not even sure why I mentioned I couldn't find the father) - but I much appreciate your posting. I'll check myself now to ensure this is the only tanner. (They were surely a family!)
Trish
NB I can search SP and look at previous searches etc - but for the OPR searches I tried nothing was found & attempting to bring up a previous OPR search also says nothing found. The other records seem to be available.
Trish,
I got this info from FREECEN (which by the way has been updated today) at
http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Does anyone know what’s happening to previous searches of OPR images, when I try to view previous ones, it comes up - This search found no matches - even if I do a fresh search from scratch nothing is showing up, anyone throw any light on this?

Hi Sandra
I'm only guessing here, but I suspect if they are busy replacing the OPR index with one which is linked to images, it may be that it cannot be used whilst the updating is in progress. Once the updating is finished I suppose we may be able to assess more fully what the knockon effects are, if any.
It does state on their web site:
***Important Service Announcement - OPR Status Wed 24th January 2007***
As part of the site preparations for the forthcoming launch of the OPR images, OPR searches will not be available until further notice. This is likely to be about 1800 GMT.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Best wishes

There are obviously gremlins in the system.
Previous statutory searches, where I have paid and downloaded the certs are now showing "image not available"

Having had the onerous task of detaching databases and re-attaching new databases to a front end (which is what you see in the "Previous Searches", etc... pages) I can tell you it's not just a case of pointing it to a new file name.
The fact that they have also changed these pages to add new functions to them probably means that a whole wheen of new programming has been going on as well.
I'm not worried
Thinks to self - who ya kiddin?

Hi David
Anyone ever seen an OPR entry showing the name of the father of the (intended) groom?, - aristocratic marriages apart, and those involving the minister's own family?
Yup - just found one:
South Leith (of course!! The South Leith OPRs have always proved to be very fruitful for me!) What more could you ask of an OPR entry??
- 1719
James Berrie, son to Alexr Berrie, mason in Leith & Janet Walker Daugt to the deceased James Walker mason, yr (being proclaimed thrice several sabbath days in order to marriage) were married 26th January 1719.
Best wishes

Hi lesley
I have a couple of Leith births/marriages (most of the family were in Fife) where I have never sighted the parish record - maybe my first expenditure when I update via the plastic

Hi Trish
I have a couple of Leith births/marriages
They may be worth following up, though as North Leith and South Leith were separate parishes, the OPR can vary quite substantially. Having folk on both sides of the water of Leith, I've always found South Leith records to be good, whilst North Leith can be variable....
Good luck!
Best wishes
