At Last :!: :!:

Serious attention being given to problems reported, and obvious effort going in to see what can be done to sort the problem.

Long may it continue :!:

Well, I am currently in a holding pattern on SP. Trying to view an image from the previous searches 'view paid'. Now the screen has gone white and the wee right hand with the pointy index finger is still looking for something to do. Ok, the previous searches page has remanifested itself, I go to the 'view paid' document again and it hangs then the browser screen is all white again; ...

Its becoming uncomfortable. Like trying to fix something that isn't broke.

Dennis

Have you followed up any email reply to you from ScotlandonLine, and described in detail your particular problems?

Hi David.

I haven't received or sent any thing to SP, as it seems to be intermittent and I don't want to hassle them with more of the same issue as I am apparently not the only one with this woe. Now I can view the images and I have made no change to my system since the post above.

I have the greatest confidence that it will be resolved.

Hello all, I'm another bearer of less than good tidings. Computer started freezing this week when i tried to view certificates with Active X - same story, no manual changes to settings from myself, but possibly Microsoft putting in an oar to improve XP. Deleted temporary net files as advised, no change, so over to Java, download, and it works again, but slower and less good magnifying options, which sometimes are essential. Tried direct download, and it works too, but no help with magnifying. Would like to get back to Active X, so hope some one somewhere fixes it!

Have sent contact form; good to know I'm not the only one! :)

Hi all,
Noticed this on the Rootsweb Lanark List.

"Is anyone else having problems viewing Paid images on Scotland's People ?
I've been trying all day to view something I've paid for but the screen keeps freezing up before the image appears.
Other searches seem to be OK, just the paid images."

Seems that when you test activex in the My Details it may or may not work. On Microsoft's site it may show that your activex is enabled, but then you can go to SP and it may tell you that it is not enabled. So is there some sort of negotiating problem?

Received this reply today from SP - very prompt, which did not however solve my problem but might be worth a try for those with similar symptoms:

"One of our team has been trying the following fix with some customers and so
far, it has worked in all cases.I have to point out that it is still a trial
at this stage - I have copied in the fix if you would like to try it.

- Close all Internet Explorer windows

- Open one new Internet Explorer window and go to 'www.google.com'

- Click on the 'Tools' menu then 'Internet Options'

- Click on 'Settings' under 'Temporary Internet files'

- Click on 'View Objects...'

- This should open a window titled 'Downloaded Program Files'

- There should be a file called 'ViewDirector Object'

- (if this file does not exist then skip the next 3 steps)

- Highlight this file and then press Delete on the keyboard

- You will be asked if you want to permanently delete this file

- Click on Yes

- Close the 'Downloaded Program Files' window and Internet Explorer

- Restart PC

- Open Internet Explorer and type into the address bar:

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Viewe ... ewdw32.ocx

- You may receive a security warning

- Choose to ignore any warnings and download the file

- Choose to save the file

- Enter the filename as 'c:\viewdw32.ocx' and click OK

- Wait for download to complete

- Click on 'Start' then 'Run' (or hold the windows key and press R)

- Type 'regsvr32 c:\viewdw32.ocx' and click OK

- You may receive a security warning (Choose to ignore the warning)

- Click 'Yes' or 'OK' at the prompt

- Restart PC

- Goto the ScotlandsPeople Website and try viewing pages by ActiveX

If you would ever like to undo the above action then you can do this by:

* - Close all Internet Explorer windows

* - Click on 'Start' then 'Run' (or hold the windows key and R)

* - Type 'regsvr32 /u viewdw32.ocx' and click OK

* - Restart PC "

Best of luck! :)

Thrall

All I did was succeed in deleting the viewdirector object file.

Still no go after trying the registry thing.

Sorry Dennis, I was only passing on the fix I received, which certainly did not cure my screen´s frigorific state! We'll just have to be patient. 8)
