Hi All,
Jumped in feet first yesterday, my last chance of finding birth of Margaret Macrae (abt 1834) and a couple of whom I have looked at for years in the IGI as being the only hope of her parents. I could not have been more excited, but yet another wall in my search for Margaret, no chance of a birth. Then for the marriage of Donald and Ann Macrae who may, or may not be her parents. Found them, but then they are in the IGI. However nothing new and extremely hard to read. Just states Married Jan 10 1825 Lochcarron. There is a column on the right of which I cannot read. There is no heading to the colomn as to what it asks? That is it, nothing else.
I thought after reading what other information some of you are finding I would have been able to either claim to have had found them or move
on.

Why don't you put the image on the gallery and see if anyone can decipher it for you?

Wow. Looked on the Statutory Deaths and found you can also add in the Mother's maiden name.

But be aware that the info is only currently there in the indexes (male and female) for ca. 10% of the records.Pandabean wrote:Wow. Looked on the Statutory Deaths and found you can also add in the Mother's maiden name.
Further, at the moment, if you enter a surname in the mother's maiden name field, you will only get exact matches, i.e. when there is an actual entry in this field in the index
Some time in the future this should change so that you will also get matches involving records where there is no entry in the mother's maiden name field in the indexes, even when you have put in such a surname in the search parameters.
Anyone who understands that deserves a large

Does that mean if you do put something in that field and do a search (that hasn't had mothers maiden name indexed) you will get no results?

In simple terms. it means that the search engine will be told that...Some time in the future this should change so that you will also get matches involving records where there is no entry in the mother's maiden name field in the indexes, even when you have put in such a surname in the search parameters.
...if the mother's surname is there - OK, but...
...if NO mother's surname is on the index but the other criteria match - OK...
If, however, a different mother's surname is there, NOT OK.

Hi Mary.
Spent all day yesterday trying to upload this Macrae Marriage.
Still no luck. I saved it and it went into "My Computer" I have tried to upload it to the Gallery and it does not work. I can send it to myself with no problem. It keeps trying for several minutes then it gives up and I get an ERROR message. Just ERROR, no explanation. HELP?

Following instructions Mary,
When I saved it I looked in My Documents and it was not there. Looked in My Computer and there it is. I went into Gallery, followed instuctions, and when it went into my PC, It started on My Documents, not there, so clicked to My Comuter and there it is. I feel there is something missing in my PC. I watch it trying to upload but it is unable to do it. In the end I get a large ERROR message.
As I said I can send it anywhere but through the Gallery.
