Thanks for all comments and thoughts. dstew, that was a LONG wait!!! I admire your patience!
Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply to this thread, but my children received a new computer from their dad for Christmas, and we were trying to set up a network connection...major problems which resulted on my being completely off line. But it is fixed now, although their connection seems mighty slow, but that is another problem!
Jean, thank you so much for the words of encouragement. I am touched by your comments and also by the help I and ultimately others in Australia have received over this issue. we have such a good community, we genealogists...the most helpful and caring people on the net.
So I guess today I will take down my Christmas Tree (my superstitious mother was horrified that it is still up) and go shopping...and maybe I will even get some housework done
(although it is so hot here I can't imagine vacuuming!)

Surely one can keep the tree up for the twelve days of Christmas without undo worries about dire consequences?ninatoo wrote: So I guess today I will take down my Christmas Tree (my superstitious mother was horrified that it is still up) and go shopping...and maybe I will even get some housework done(although it is so hot here I can't imagine vacuuming!)

Hello Nina
Sorry to hear you are still not able to get into SP. I never thought I would be praising my being with Telstra, but then maybe it is because I am on the west coast and a different route is used.
I hope the medication is working well now, both the ones prescribed by the doctor and the selve prescribed ones too
I hope you can get back on soon.

GETTING READY
I am in Queensland but like Stewie use Telstra and have had no problems at all, anywhere since the cables were damaged.
Hope you get the problem fixed soon.
Maybe you need to give Optus the flick

Thanks for the support and sympathy stewL and wini,
Yes before all of this happened I considered changing from Optus as it was getting a bit too expensive, although I have always found their service reliable until now. And I know the cause is not their fault, and to some extent neither is the length of time it is taking to fix. But surely the voice of the little person/people must count for something? After all without us, they would have millions LESS profit per year!
Honestly it is sooo frustrating! I thought I would just use this time to go through my files and tidy them and make sure all was annotated correctly. But I have come across so many things I would like to cross reference using SP and I can't! So I end up getting more frustrated! I want my SP BACK!!! WAHHHHHH!

Don't have any suggestions except if you need something send me a pm I have some credits at SP just now and I probably won't use them before they expire

Awww thanks wini, but there is nothing so urgent as to take advantage of your generosity! Or anyone else's! It is a fly in the ointment today, but hopefully soon I will again have access. In the meantime I think I will leave my tree alone, as it is a bit disappointing when I really want to know about someone's marriage or place of birth, or all those other details.
It has really highlighted how much I relied on SP for my research! Ah well, I am off camping on tuesday, so perhaps by the time I get back it will be reconnected!

Sadly, nope!, as regards the "voice of the little people...." as, in our capitalist system, the priority for [SingTel] Optus will always be to sort out the situation for their corporate clients, who will presumably provide most of their income, and thereby profit, before they even begin to think about the "little people".ninatoo wrote:....snipped..........

Now, had the main business of [SingTel] Optus been ISP services for private individuals, that would have been a different kettle of fish, but, as the situation stands, - call me cynical if you like, - I'd prefer the adjective "realistic", you just have to take your place in the queue ..........

PS Hmmm.... "pessimistic optimist" - looks like we're into oxymorons
