Timelines and their limitations

Post by Jamboesque » Thu Feb 07, 2008 2:28 am

Hi Folks,

This post isn’t a problem as such with SP but more to generate a discussion to see if there is any point in requesting SP to make a change in their presentation.

What I have a gripe with is the fact that we have only 1 timeline. It is a very useful tool in locating previous downloaded images but if like me you are chasing down 7 lines (7 out of my 8 great grandparents are of Scottish descent to at least 1800 or so) then you are going to generate a lot of images. It would be most useful if we could attribute an image to a specific timeline that we could name which would make looking back over time an easier task. My time line now extends over 16 pages from 1793 to 1956 so it is a bit on the large size and I expect it to possibly double over the next couple of years as I work through the various lines. I would think 10 lines per user would be a starter but I have no feel if this is just a pie in the sky idea

I realise that what I’m asking for is probably impossible or too expensive to implement but if you don't ask you don't get and sometimes I feel that I am funding the improvements to the Family History Centre at Register House with my own SP credits!

Comments anyone.

Jack

PS the only Great Grandparent not of Scottish descent was a Great Grandmother (Agnes Hutson) from Ireland but where in Ireland is a mystery! :(
I'd like to be apathetic but I really can't be bothered.

Looking for blacksheep & not finding any with
Groats & Stevensons in Orkney, Hood's in Dundee/Angus, Mclaren's in Clackmannan and Jolly's in Kincardineshire. There may be more!

Hi Jack,

Don't you save all of your images to your hard drive? I do and prefer to keep my own timelines for my families...I like complete control

Regards,
