Is it true she nipped into the Cafe Royal afterwards for a swift half and some oysters? :D

Cheers!

Hauf o' Deuchars IPA I hope! :D
Deuchars IPA = brilliant beer, brewed in Embra. [cheers]
The best beer in the world, though I'm perfectly happy to sample others to put my theory to the test.

I can testify that Lesley isn't kidding.....I've seen her down a few pints at the pub right outside NRH last year. Not sure if it's called the Cafe Royal. [cheers] [cheers] [cheers]

Innis & Gunn = Scotlands BEST beer, bar none. In my humble opinion!

And I can confirm that Her Maj did indeed partake in a sweet sherry - but it was in the Penny Black, not the Cafe Royale!

Ok, update.
Yup, the Innis & Gunns Oak aged is pretty good - well worth trying again, I reckon. My other half tells me the one aged in whisky barrels is even better and easily justifies another experimental tasting session...

The fact that it is brewed in Edinburgh gives it extra bonus points with me. As a teenager and early 20-something, that wonderful brewery smell as the train pulled into Edinburgh spelled excitement and anticipation. It still does it for me, even if my destination these days is not nightclubs and friends' student flats but the rather more staid NAS or NRH!

Still a Deuchars fan... I don't think they have Innis & Gunn on tap at the Café Royal.

Best wishes
Lesley

Glad you like I&G's finest! It's accounted for a few sair heids and a good half stone for me personally though.

Unfortunately I've yet to sample it in any of Edinburghs hostelries (SCANDALOUS!), indeed a pub in Kensington is the only pub I've found it!

And I'm afraid because of the way it's brewed, it's unlikely to ever be available in draught.

Should also note that Deuchars IPA has accounted for oooooh, the other 6 or 7 stone that I'm overweight!
