I prefer the Guilford to the Cafe Royal. The C R is a bit of a barn in my opinion not withstanding the impressive tile portraits of famous people.
The Guilford also has a wider selection of real ales than CR.

I can also recommend Dr Deuchars Diet but if you don't want to lose your svelte like figure be aware that it's 200 calories per pint.
