Hello all:
What is the best way to view documents "saved" on SP's site?
When I attempt to save the documents to my computer, I get a message stating that the image will be saved to my temp folder, for security reasons. Is there a way around this?
Also, once I pass this issue, what is the best program to use for viewing images/documents downloaded from SP?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Brian

Hi Brian,
I use Microsoft Photo Gallery (part of Windows Vista I think) or Microsoft Office Picture Manager (part of Microsoft Office). Both are viewer programs rather than editing programs, so the image will stay in its original format with these. I have Microsoft Office Picture Manager set as the default viewer programs for TIF files (bmd certificates or census pages) and JPG files (OPR pages).
Whenever I go to save SP images, I am offered to put them in the Pictures folder. I can save them there, or elsewhere if I choose to do so.
The one thing that I would advise is that you keep the downloaded pages in their original downloaded formats. If (for example) you convert the TIF files to JPGs, you will lose image quality.
All the best,
AndrewP

Andrew:
I don't have the option of saving it anywhere else except the TEMP folder.
Vista cites "for your security" the file will be saved in the temp file.
Do you know any way around this? It's beginning to get a little frustrating.

Brian,
Which version of Vista do you have? I have Windows Home Premium and I'm not having any of the problems you are. I use Windows Photo Gallery to open the files, then click on Copy to Gallery if I want to save it. This gives me a window which offers Copy and Replace, Don't Copy, or Copy, but keep both files. Since I don't really know what all that means I have been clicking Copy, but keep both files. This automatically saves the file to the Pictures folder and renames it Scotland's People...jpg.
Once it is in the Pictures folder in the gallery, I can move it or tag it or rename it or whatever.
I am using direct download from SP, by the way.

Hi Brian
I use the free Irfanview programme which allows you to open direct downloads as an option. Once on screen you can 'save as' and choose your destination folder.
I am running Vista ( and object to its interference sometimes )

I have Vista premium home. Maybe the problem is when I try to save them, the system just assumes that the documents should be saved in the TEMP file........<shrug>speleobat2 wrote:Brian,
