New Publication

Post by LesleyB » Sun Nov 30, 2008 6:43 pm

Hi all
Just went off to buy some credits on SP and there was a section about subscribing to a magazine, which seems to be new:
http://www.discovermypast.co.uk/

Only seems to be an online magazine though, so not great for trains and buses (unless you have a laptop, I suppose!) It also appears to be a Brightsolid publication, so the same company who provide SP.

Best wishes
Lesley

Has anyone subscribed to this publication :?:

I paid for the first months magazine but I have great difficulty in reading it

The normal view is far to small to read and when I zoom in the pixelation becomes so bad that I can't read that either [computer]

Think I will send a contact form in case I am missing something, but wondered if anyone else had any trouble with it :?:

Cheers

Bill

Hi Bill:

I haven't been on to have a look, but have you tried holding down the 'control' key and rolling the wheel on the top of your mouse backwards/forwards?

Hope that might help,

Hi Bill
I've not subscribed to it, but the sample pages that are on the web site seem OK to zoom in on - no pixelation happening there, but then that is only a sample and not the full version of the magazine which may be in a different format.

Best wishes

Hello All.

I don’t know about the full version but the sample may not work unless you have the latest version (10) of Adobe Flash Player http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ . Minimum system requirements are here but version 10 doesn’t appear to work on Windows versions prior to XP. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/ See bottom of page for earlier versions but it won’t necessarily work with those.

Right click the sample page to see your Flash version. I have version 10,0,12,36 and use Firefox 3.0.4 and the sample will zoom to 300% using the toolbar but takes a second or so to settle out the pixilation.

Everything looks ok except that some of the fonts (Contributor section) look a bit feeble and I don’t know how they will look if printed. I have no plans to print it but can see no obvious way of doing so using Firefox.

Have you tried putting the pointer over each article and clicking? I think you'll find that opens the article for reading, but I don't know for sure because when I do it (I've not got a subscription) it says I cannot open it.

H all

Thanks for your suggestions.

I managed to get Adobe flash, version 10 installed and that seems to have done the trick :D

When I zoom in, it does take ages for the page to become clear but I'm putting that down to my faithfull old laptop. Im afraid it's seen better days [comp-hammer]

Thanks again

Bill

I also found it hard to read. Although I could enlarge each page, when I turned a page it reverted to small size which was really tiresome. It took me a while to spot a download button towards the bottom right of the page, which lets you download the magazine to your computer as a .pdf file which opens with Adobe Acrobat and can be sized as you wish. That solved the problem.
