Username Change

Post by Gloswegian » Mon Sep 14, 2009 11:08 am

Hello all,

not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if it is possible to change your username on SP whilst retaining all your searches and images? When I first registered, I used my e-mail address as the username. This was a bad idea as it was a very long e-mail address and not very easy to remember either.

The fact that my system does not remember the username for me means that each time I log in to SP, I have to type the whole thing out and it is a bit of a bind.
Obviously this is not an essential, just a nice to have.

Thanks
Gordon

I don't know about changing your name, but when I log into SP I only have to type in the first letter of my user name and some options pop-up beneath and I just click the right one and off I go...

Hi Gloswegian:

I've checked the 'My Details' page, and all the details, except the membername have the option to change.

Nothing about changing your username in the Help and Resources section on SP. You could use the contact sheet at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... spx?r=1202 'I have forgotten my username or password' is closest to your question, so you might want to use that.

If it is not possible, perhaps you could create a document that contains only your user name, or make your username the name of a blank file (providing you can remember the first part of it). That way, when you want to sign on you could just do a copy and paste.

Hi gordon,

If you click the box next to "Log me on automatically after each visit" you won't have to log in each time you visit the site. It will remember your user name and password.

I don't see that box anywhere on the SP site Ina.

Even after I have logged in, I don't see such a box anywhere.

Is it possible that there are different views depending on the browser or operating system? :?:

Hi Gordon

I think you might need to send SP a contact form to see if it is possible to change your user name, but I'd not be at all surprised if the answer is "no".... :!:
Won't do any harm to ask though. :D

Best wishes

This box appears before you log in.

When I visit the Scotlands People site, I don't find any 'auto log-in' box either.

Talking Scot [scotland-flag] has one but SP doesn't appear to.

Hi Gordon,

You can't change your username on SP...I wanted to change mine years ago and it wasn't allowed.

Like Wilma, I only have to type the first letter and a box pops up with the entire user name - so only a click away.

Anne H

I agree with Wilma on that one - here on Talking Scot you can tick a box to be logged in automatically, but it is not an option available on Scotlands People.

Best wishes
