RCE

Post by trish1 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:21 am

I am sure this has been asked before (maybe by myself) - so apologies - I have searched but have no success.

I have downloaded an 1899 death in the margin of which is an RCE - but I cannot find a red button? I thought perhaps I had to view it online - so I changed the direct download - first option didn't work at all - then I tried the java option - eventually worked after it downloaded I don't know what to my computer - thus I remember why I use direct download. Using the java option there is still no red button for the RCE

I have tried the help on SP - it says open the certificate & then use the red button but I cannot find same. The death appears to have been an accident in a quarry - so I assume the RCE relates to the accident - not so important perhaps to read the RCE, but I would like to know how the RCE system works & there may be extra information.

thanks

Trish

Hi Trish,

Sometimes you don't get any more information on the RCE than what's actually on the DC and other times you get additional information. If your RCE notation is on the left hand side of your particular entry and there's no red button then I suggest sendng a contact form to SP to let them know. They'll probably find it for you and send you a copy.

Hi Anne

Thank you for replying - I think I have checked another RCE & not got alot of information. In Australia they do put the result of an Inquest on the death certificate (which usually isn't issued until after the inquest) so I am just wondering if the RCE would have something similar in this instance.

This man died with broken legs & worked as a quarryman - so it seems like an accident to me. Andrew has kindly offered to check it for me & see if he can find the "red button" - which may well result in little additional information - but it may help me to sort out what I should be doing!

Hi Trish,

The red button is not there, but should be. Complete a contact form on the SP website, and they should find the RCE for you.

On the SP site, follow the links as listed below:

  • Contact Us
  • Continue here to fill out the contact us form
  • Other problem not listed above
Quote the name, year, age at death, and registration district; and say that the death certificate has an RCE note, but that the red RCE button is not there.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks again Anne & Andrew - I just received the RCE from SP & it was worth following up - I had thought he died in an accident & the RCE confirms this - a report from the Procurator Fiscal's office. I am not too up on Scottish names for such things - but I assume this is similar to our Coroner reports. It reads to have been a horrible accident in the quarry.

Nice change not to be something I am doing incorrectly :D

Hi Trish,

Some of the RCE's can be sad reading, but glad you got it all sorted out. :)
