Problems printing images

Post by Lorna Allison » Fri Dec 03, 2010 7:34 pm

Hello All

I find that when I attempt to print down an image it prints the first time and thereafter the image just disappears after I have clicked on "landscape" and OK.

I go out of SP then back in again, but no it is still sulking ](*,)

I have tried looking at my profile and am told that Java is fine. When I try to print it always asks me if it is OK to run a previous Java programme and I say yes. This has happened for about a year and always worked fine until yesterday when the images started disappearing. Even a good night's sleep didn't help the poor laptop.

Would greatly appreciate any help.

Regards

Lorna

Hello Lorna,

Have you tried saving the image to your computer and from there requesting the print copy ?

Hi Heather

Ashamed to say I haven't done that before and, having had a stab, can't seem to manage it. What do you choose to save it as?

Thanks for helping.

Hi Lorna,

If you don't have a system already, for the short term just save it as something you'll remember, as
and example : D1875 Jane Smith.tif and be sure you know where you've saved it. Worst case just
save it to your desktop. From there you should be able to open in appropriate viewer and print from
there.

Hope this makes sense ..

Hi Lorna

Just to add to Heather's explanation - you would need to change to 'Direct Download' on your SP profile page so that downloading directly to your computer is the option of choice. A good (FREE :D ) programme you can download is Irfanview. It's not very sophisticated but allows magnification of your images/conversion to .jpg file or Tiff formats/ negative images to be done (the last being very useful with some of the faint, illegible OPR images) switching from black on white to white on black can make the writing more readable somehow :? .

Hello Heather & Russell

I just want to go back to my trouble free viewing that I have used and understood for years [rant]

I could try downloading the irfanview but I am so pathetic about getting new things to work. ie, will the downloaded image automatically let me view the image? Where will the image go?

Oh, I just can't stand it. I'll wait until I can get out of the house and take laptop to computer bod - that could be a long wait looking outside. Never mind, we're warm, got food, wood stove and crampon add-ons :D - sorted - just no [cheers]

Thank you both, I'm just pathetic and I'm away to hide my blushes.

Hey

I went back to my details, decided to give Adobe a try (it didn't used to work) and bingo a printout :D

I wonder if that has something to do with recent visit to computer bod after a Google add-on, which had apparently installed itself when I updated Adobe recently, corrupted and wouldn't let me into anything at all?

ANYWAY - looks like I may be ok, here's hoping.

Many thanks for your patience and kindness. Sometimes it takes a chat to get the brain cells semi-operational

Hi Lorna

No need for the IT EXPERT. Google 'Irfanview' and select the official website. Select the FREE DOWNLOAD Once you download it you will be asked if you wish to open the file. Click OK and it will install itself amongst your other programmes.
Next time you start to open a graphic file you will be asked which programme you want to use . Browse the options and select Irfanview. You may be asked whether you want to make this your preferred option for all images. I use it routinely and there are other functions and additional add-ons once you get used to it.

It just takes a bit of practice. You can do it :D

Hi Russell

A screen comes up asking if I want a whole list of stuff. At the foot it says "Image only", Select All" or "None". Then there is a place to click for "All Users (XP)

What should I do there? Just skip on to "next"? I am using Vista

Hi Lorna

Ignore most of the stuff on offer. there should be a box near the top of the right hand side. I don't know which version of XP you have installed but it shouldn't matter. Click the XP button. If a page comes up with a long list of additional download options leave them clear and click 'next'. At some point you will be asked for your e-mail address but that is just if you want to sign-up for up-date information. Ignore it and move to the next stage. When your download page comes up showing that the download is complete double (left) click on it to 'Run' the file. A box will ask you 'whether you trust this website' click yes to activate the program.

Hope this works for you
