For one reason or another I was looking for a marriage of James Scott and Agnes Turnbull. According to the IGI, extracted entry, they were married in Southdean, Roxburghshire in 1837. Accordingly I thought I had nothing to do but access the record on SP, but there is absolutely no sign that I can find. I looked at their list of records available and marriages for Southdean and Abbotrule seem to be extant for that period.
I did every possible search I could think of and also searched for any of the other marriages from the same place and time, going so far as to search with minimal input such as Sco* El* Arm* or D*gl* but there was no marriages for around that period in Southdean or Abbotrule. I widened the search and there is no marriage for James and Agnes in Roxburghshire at or around that time.
Anyone have an answer for this riddle. Am I missing something?
Anne

Re: Disappearing marriages
Hi Anne,
I can only get 18 results (9 couples) for marriages in OPR 806 (Southdean & Abbotrule). They are all in 1854, and all on the one page. Something looks to be amiss.
A search on the IGI of batch number M118064 gives 18 results for 1837, none of which are found on an SP search. The same batch gives nearly 500 results from 1820 to 1853 on the IGI. There is a separate OPR batch M118062 (presumably another book?) with the 1854 results that appear on SP. It looks like there may be an OPR book for Southdean & Abbotrule that doesn't show up on SP.
It's worth a 'contact form' inquiry to SP.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Disappearing marriages
I contacted them and got a totally unhelpful response.
Don't have time to chase them up further at the moment but it seems a shame that people searching in that area may find nothing.

Re: Disappearing marriages
I have had a similar experience.
The marriage of Julian Sandilands and Richard Robertson is recorded in both the Stow and Selkirk OPRs for year 1798 yet only one entry appears in the search results on Scotlands People. Admittedly, there are errors with the names, Robson is substituted for Robertson in one of the entries and I think Julian appears as Juliana, and Sandilands as Sandelands, but even when you submit wildcards, only one of the entries pops up in the search results!
It may seem trivial but I was quite frustrated and wasted several credits searching for an entry which I knew was there as I had stumbled across it when I viewed the registers on micro fiche.
Apart from this niggle, my experience of the site in general has always been an extremely positive one.
