Who are Scottish Docs

Post by trish1 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 11:11 am

I downloaded a will & it appears to finish mid sentence so I think a page may be missing at the end - after a couple of back and forth replies from SP I get the following message

If you believe the testament image should be continuing onto the next page, then I am afraid you will need to contact Scottish Docs directly. We have no access to those originals therefore would be unable to check this here.

When viewing an image, a comment on the transcription or image quality may be reported directly sent electronically to GROS for Statutory and OPR and Census images and indexes and the Catholic Parish Registers, the National Archives of Scotland for Wills and Testaments, and the Court of the Lord Lyon for Coats of Arms.

Sometimes their replies make no sense to me at all. I have no idea if the second paragraph has any relationship to my query - but the first appears to. Could someone please advise who are "Scottish Docs"? Are they referring to NAS as per the second paragraph?

Hello Trish,

I‘d say they are referring to Scottish Documents who were involved in the digitisation etc. http://www.scottishdocuments.com/

However ScotlandsPeople are selling the item. You have paid for a will, not half a will. If it clearly is only half a will then they should either get the other half for you or refund your money, not send you off on a wild goose chase.

And they really should not use jargon and abbreviations when replying to customers enquiries.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan

I'm finding their replies read somewhat like the chinese english instructions as to how to use my kitchen kettle - but am trying to stay polite and patient - however - going to your link - I headed to the contact us page which says

Wills and testaments
If your enquiry concerns digital images of wills and testaments, which used to be on this website, please refer to our wills and testaments page and follow the link to the ScotlandsPeople website.

Which as you may surmise sends me to the Scotlandspeople website - who sent me (via your help) to the ScottishDocs site

Then I had thought I had better double check what I downloaded - and discover that the will is listed as pages 1-16 - but when I log on today - it includes pages 17 & 18 of 16

Was that there before I emailed? Who would know? How hard would it have been for someone to double check that the will did end - rather than send me nonsense emails

Anyhow -many thanks for your reply - sent me double checking

Trish
