Post by johnhills » Sun Dec 25, 2011 8:03 pm

After lots of hair pulling(going bald now) trying to find my Mums side of the family I traced most of my mums rellies and a few of Dads too on Scotlands people.Tried most of the others, but it seems the best bet for tracing Scottish Relatives and of course you too :D

Hi John
I would agree with you that scotlandspeople gives you more for your buck than many other sites with additional information which may, or may not lead you on to the next generation (this applies particularly to death records since the informant may have been e.g. a son-in-law who only new his m-in-law as MRS ...) Sometimes the registrar was given information which was not strictly correct ( thinking here of marriage certificates where the new husband massaged his age down to appear more compatible with his new wife's age or she may have made herself slightly more mature.)
If you could give us more info like dates, places and names so we can start looking for individuals it would help. Some members use ancestry.com and have posted quite hilarious transcription errors so the warning is "place not your faith in the accuracy of entries" Even scotlandspeople is not wholly immune despite being an official site.

That's what the pre-retirement programme is supposed to warn you about. Everybody thinks that you are available all day now for all these tasks they don't have time for because they're working :(
I warn you though that five years or so down the line it doesn't get any easier.
