Hello
Once again S P is freezing my screen when trying to view images. I had the same problem in October see (frozen screen on s p topic) which resolved by magic without me doing anything. On 8th Dec. I accessed 1861 census – found a match, paid my 5 credits and froze. Tried again –froze again
I can’t download images-sometimes nothing appears and sometimes a large square and then freeeeeze
Searches paid for show in previous searches but I can’t view them Last download and viewing was 2nd Dec with no problems.
Sent off a contact –got the usual reply ‘’some people are having a problem etc’’ advised to change to java or download to disc.
Do I start altering my settings or wait and see- as I did before?
I see there has been a recent upgrade –is it a case of here we go again?
I see that Caraid in ‘’computer and software’’ was also having problems.

s p freezing again
Hello
After following all the hints in different posts I took s p's advice and switched to java. I prefer the direct x view but as long as I can download and view my images I'm happy, I only hope there isn't another upgrade in the offing.

Hi Ros
To change viewer:
Log in to SP as usual.
You should end up in the "Search Records" tab area. Along the top there are links in purple - click on "My Details". Scroll down to the bottom of this page - the very last item in the section called "Application Options" is "Image Viewer". Click on the drop-down list and choose the option you want. Now click the "Update Details" button.
Just to stick my two pennyworth in: I don't use ActivX or Java - I have found all along that Direct Download is, for me, by far the best option. The image launches immediately in the image editing program Paint Shop Pro which is installed on my PC & then I can zoom in or out to read it, crop the black edges off before printing the image (landscape) and then save it. As I often find myself working on other PCs (at work!) the "Direct Download" option also gives me the option to save the image to a USB removeable memory stick and take it away with me! However, maybe "Direct Download" is not everyone's cup of tea....
Best of luck with it!
Lesley

RE SP freezing
Hi,
If you go onto your details page on SP it will give you the option of changing to Java. If you have a problem let SP know and they will do it for you.
