GROS DATA Indexs.....

Post by Skywave » Wed Dec 21, 2005 7:39 pm

Hi All,
A recent search I input on SP gave me a number of possibilites for children of an Alexander Mercer (not known who the wife was), between 1772 and 1803 (21 year period, may need to whittle down). The question is why do they all show up with the same GROS DATA Index ](*,)

Any help appreciated

Ron

Hello Ron,

before statutory registration in 1855, the GROS index will refer to a film that will contain many parish registers. Some names have a FR reference after them, e.g. John Robertson/Mary ClarkFR1234. That is the frame number within that film and will be visible on the film (top-right corner, I think, from memory).

Regards,

John
