Since 1955 deaths came on SP I have been searching for the DC of my Father.I knew he died in April of that year in Avondale but all my searches returned nothing,I thought as it was an accident maybe it wasn't registered until later or maybe it had been missed, anyway last night I just searched under Lanark and Hey Presto,up it came under District of Avondale and Glassford.
Just thought I'd post this, it might save someone thinking they're going MAD, as I thought I was.

Hi Janet,

Madness is not required, but it may help.

Ther registration districts of Avondale (621) and Glassford (645) existed quite happily (from 1855 to 1937, and pre-1855 as parishes) until they were combined to form Avondale and Glassford in 1938. From 1972, it changed again and became Strathaven (579). This was commonplace, particularly outside of the cities for RDs to be combined, presumably for economic reasons.

The same did happen in the cities, but later on.
