Hi all,
Has anyone had problems with scotlandspeople and had a successful outcome? I have now had two images that can not be properly viewed. The first, which I contacted them about is indecipherable. Their answer to the problem was that it was the fault of the registrar because "his writing was so small" - they did offer to send a hard copy, but did not offer to refund my credits. I don't even know whether to contact them regarding the second document.
Does anyone else think it is wrong that they should offer a viewing if the document is unreadable. I know it is only $3.00 but they sure add up. Any comments or am I whingeing alone?
Jen.

Hi Jen
I've requested photocopies a couple different times. Actually it was within 1 day of each other and when I made out the 2nd contact form I noted that I had made a request the previous day and if they had not shipped that one yet they could save postage by combining the two. I got both in one envelope. I didn't expect a refund of credits as I had afterall paid to view the image and that was what I was getting. The images received were perfectly readable but it was easy to see how the spidery script did not come through well in the online versions. On another occasion I had purchased a BC and when I viewed the page it was not there! I sent a contact form just to tell them that the index had an error and was completely surprised to receive a photocopy of the correct image in the mail in a few days and a refund of credits. I'm sure if you send a contact form you'll get good results. If not then please let us know the details and it can be brought to the attention of the User Group. Oh...and one more thing.....if you have a document you'd like to upload to our gallery there are any number of folks around here who would have a crack at figuring out the script!
Hope this helps you!
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jen,
Yep I would send a form and get a hard copy. Nearly always it is much better to read and even if it is still not perfect you will be able to make out most of the information. As to viewing a bad image.....well there are millions of records but not to many we can't read, and a turn around of a couple of days isn't too bad a service..and they pay the postage so..
happy hunting

Hi all,
Twice in the last few months I have encountered issues with images. The first was a completely illegible marriage certificate, the second was a supposed census return that said 'PAGE MISSING'. On both occasions, I have sent the information to them, with full reference for the image and asked for refunded credits. Both times I have had my 5 credits refunded and within a week had an A3 photocopy of the image posted out.
Obviously, in my cases, the image that was presented was not an accurate reflection of the original document, so they refunded me. However, I have a few images that are almost totally illegible because of the handwriting not the imaging process. I don't think even getting a hard copy of some of them would make the difference. What I do in that case is save the image and then open it in something like photoshop (or other image software) and magnify the section I cannot read in that. Sometimes it works wonders.
Cheers,
Clare

Always found them prompt & helpful.Depending on the problem(I am sure they sigh when they see my e-mail address) it has been a combination of refund &/or paper copy of image.
If we don't tell them their is a problem then how can they do better?
Have also had great response re misinformation on Certificates & have been assured that RCEs will be made.

I have had only one problem and I expect it will be resolved eventually.
It is an 1855 Birth record sent a contact on 18th January.
Unfortunately the book has been sent away for repair.
I will check with them soon and see when it is likely to be available. I did get a refund because of the delay
