Looking at previous searches

Post by ninatoo » Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:23 am

Hi all,

This is really getting me down!

I have a lot of pages for my previous searches, and I find it time consuming and frustrating trying to find records that I have previously searched for and/or viewed. Sometimes I miss what I am looking for completely, pay a credit and find that I HAVE done that search before. This has happened a few times.

I know you can click on the heading "Name" and it is supposed to alphabetise the list so it makes searching easier....well it isn't working properly for me!

The first few pages are okay, but when I get beyond that, it either switches itself off so I have a random list again or it will alphabetise only the page I am looking at!

Yes, I know this has been addressed before, but I think it is HIGH TIME this was ammended at SP. We have enough records to search through without being frustrated searching through our own results! We NEED a surname search for the "Previous Searches" AND also the "Viewed Images" pages.

Surely this can't be all that hard to include on such a great site???

I agree. I am finding it hard to keep track. I didn't realise about the "name" thing though that will be a bit of a help for me. Ta.

Only if it works properly...which it doesn't for me at least!

Hi all
For a while after the SP site update the "sort" seemed unreliable, but on my account its been OK recently - seems to keep the order that has been requested. I still think, as has been discussed before, that a "search" on previous searches would be an excellent improvement though!

Best wishes
Lesley

I also tried the Name option but I too found it unreliable - worked to start with and then reverted back to original index. I would love a Name search for previous searches. Now that I've been doing the family tree thing for a while I've learnt quite a lot but in the early days I accessed loads of certs and now find I'm paying twice as there's so many.
I hope SP can sort something out soon please!

Nina, I also agree, a name search for previous searches would be so much easier, I too have spent many 1 credits for a search when its already been done, maybe the user group could suggest this at the next meeting :?:

I think I recall it being mentioned in previous posts that it was going to be discussed or had been discussed and they agreed with it all but as yet nothing has been done yet. Well I guess they have been busy getting the censuses online...

I wonder if the "Name" function deteriorates according to the number of names on the list? For me, even if it DID work correctly, I would still have to fiddle around trying to find the right page for my "D" names for example, so the simplest solution would be a surname search option.

LOOKING AT PREVIOUS SEARCHES

Post by wini » Mon May 01, 2006 9:29 am

I too find the name searches deteriorates and it would be great to have it more acurate.
I have used the type search if I am looking for a specific event, but it too is unreliable.
Since I only have about 800 searches I can sympathise with the rest of you. I find myself paying the 1 credit again because I get fed up looking.
Is it possible for the user group to bring it up again?
