SP announcement

just had the latest announcement from SP in my email.....

'We are also working hard to improve your service by publishing further
data sets, adding more infrastructure and deploying a new payment gateway.'


I don't suppose they are considering an annual subscription while they're tinkering with the payment gateway? It would make life so much easier

I was just thinking about this last week when I decided not to spend another £6 to see one more certificate- Scotlandspeople would be the only website I would consider paying a subscription for. I have used Ancestry's £4.99 pay per view occasionally, which is more than adequate when it's only costing you 1 credit to look at a census image or immigration form but having to use 6 of your 30 credits to view a result and an image on Scotlandspeople means that I use it less. Even a discount for buying 60 or more credits would be useful. I would be the proverbial child in the sweetie shop if I could pay a subsription and it would still be only one charge on the credit card bill to explain to my husband!

An annual subscription to Scotlandspeople would be fine for folk like me who have virtually all ancestors from Scotland but would not be so good for people who have only one line back to Scotland which might not offer more than 5 or 6 certificates anyway.
It would mean setting up a more complicated serice which would stay pay-per-view for those with limited access needs and a separate process for annual renewals.
Annual subscriptions might put those with limited finance off joining altogether.
I already have almost all my relevant entries downloaded so I have no axe to grind either way and any OPR's I need I can do myself but for those abroad they might find it harder to justify the cost.

I just say "Thank goodness for the detail that Scottish entries give"
My stay-at-homes did me a favour.

As someone with a limited number of Scottish ancestors, I find it extremely irritating to go onto SP only to find that my credits have expired. I sometimes end up squandering credits on trivia just to use them up! If the credits could be given a longer shelf-life, I would certainly use SP more often.

I'm great at squandering that's why my credits never get a chance to expire!! I seem to keep getting folk who live in the right place at the right time but when you choose to view they are entirely wrong. I wish the index gave a little more such as marital status.

For people like me an annual subscriptiion would be great, but of course we probably all have different needs.

I don't worry about using up left over credits I just wait till next time and have them added on to my next 30.

I once tried using the higher number of credits available but I found that made me too profligate and used them with gay abandon, so I have gone back to 30 at a time.

I really appreciate SP but still get frustrated when I have a choice of maybe three or four people with same name, same district, same age and I always pick the wrong one.

Maybe the UG could bring up the sub at a meeting.

An annual subscription on the census data alone would be a godsend for me, maybe something along the lines of that on Ancestry.co.uk. Of course this is only because my long departed are proving to be nightmares to track down!

i have just joined but have used scotlands people buying credits as i only buy 30 at a time each time i need more it shows on my
statement for all the payments .i would love to have an annual subscription being on a pension would make life so much easier to safe up for and just think the other sites dont show the information scotlands people show .also like a lot of others i also use up a lot of credits and they are not my people kind regards jean (australia)

Can you pay for credits other than with a credit card? I don't have one any more and hubby won't let me use the debit on the internet - security!
