Need an Idiot guide

Post by Helen64 » Sat Aug 26, 2006 3:08 pm

I am searching Youngs from Midlothian, i am up to 1777 and i have reached a full stop!
I am stuck on David Young born in Duddingston during 1777 David Young married Marian Selkirk in 1802 she was born 1781.

The problem i am having is, :( i can not find his parents i have found Marian/marions parents and all david and Marians children.

So could i ask some one to help!! :!: !! i am going mad as i have tried everything i can possibily think off.

Family Names: Young/ Ferguson/ Mains/ Reilly/ Black/ Heaney/ Simpson/ Selkirk/ in no spacific order.

I would be most grateful for some advice or assistance.

Hi Helen,

Found 2 birth entries for David Young, both in Duddingston, Midlothian but they are both submitted ones and give no parents.

However, there is an extracted entry of a christening for a David Young...

DAVID YOUNG
Birth:
Christening: 16 NOV 1777 Bristo Associate Congregation, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

Parents:
Father: JAMES YOUNG
Mother: JENET WALLACE

Could this be him? If his parents were members of this church they may have had to go into Edinburgh to have him christened.

Hi Helen

When I saw the name and place my eyes lit up but mine was 65 or so years later. In 1770 my Youngs were in Lanarkshire.

Have you trawled through the LDS films of the OPR for Duddingston ?

That may be the only way to find them. The LDS Family Centres can order them in for you quite reasonably and then its a matter of deciding a time span of about 10 years and working through the entries.
If you are in luck there may be an actual index of births but so far I have only seen a couple from about 8 parish records.

There's a huge satisfaction in finding them yourself rather than getting the info from someone else.
