Direct Download - Quicktime?

Post by pinkshoes » Tue Dec 26, 2006 9:54 pm

My viewer is set to direct download (has been for yonks). Suddenly Quicktime has taken over ... when I view the image, I see a huge blue Q in the middle of the screen, that vanishes and the image appears. However, when I print the document, I get nothing but the Scotlanspeople URL followed by GROS-SCO-WEB3/temp/images/20061226/B190... and the date. Right clicking on the image gives me Quicktime guff which means nothing to me.

Anybody know what that's about?

I changed my details to ActiveX but that printed off 3 pages, the 2nd one with the image in the middle of the page with all the search options below.

It wisnae me, ah wisnae footerin ... :-k

Have you had Quicktime on your PC for a while, or is it something that you have added recently? I tried Quicktime at one stage and did not like it. I uninstalled it within a couple of days of having installed it.

All the best,

Hi Andrew

I think it's been there on and off - I remember my daughter squealing about something messing up her computer and it may well have been Quicktime.

Do you think it would over-ride the direct download settings I've always had? Sorry to sound a numpty.

I may ring daughter and see if she's been footering - she has been a "house guest" for a few days, and may have done something behind my back

Thanks - I'll be back with an update.

Best wishes

Quite possible that a fresh installation of Quicktime has directed image viewing to it instead of one of the regulars, such as Microsoft Picture Manager or Photo Editor.

All the best,

Andrew

Problem solved. Quicktime installed itself with the new 80g ipod apparently - now uninstalled and all back to normal. Only took a 20 minute phone call to computer wizz (took that long to make me understand the lingo  ).

Should've known Santa's elves would be behind it.

Thanks again Andrew.

Thrall - sometimes it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool - as usual I decided to open my mouth and remove all possible doubt

If you'd heard the conversation twixt me 'n' my wean:

Right click on the icon
Whit icon?
Hmm - Can you see the image
Whit image?
Hmm - Can you see the screen
Yes
Right, we'll start there then ...

Glad it helped you !

LATER : should've known - it's no' that simple pal. Ipod (itunes) requires Quicktime it seems (at least the 80Gb one does), so if anyone else finds a similar problem, this is what you do (it's taken me since last night to figure it out, but I must say I'm feeling quite pleased with myself).
In control panel, open Quicktime. Click on the "browser" tab. At the bottom of the panel, click MIME settings. Uncheck "Images - Still Image Files". That should do the trick.

Footering with "File Types" which is supposed to allow you to choose the defaults for Quicktime doesn't work. I was beginning to think Quicktime was set to take over the world.

As this is a pooter issue rather than SP, I will post something on the techie board in case anyone has a problem and misses this.

Well, we Apple Mac people have been using Quicktime for ages, but I just thought SP was making it easier for me. :)
