Two entries for same marriage?

Post by kathyc » Thu Mar 01, 2007 8:50 pm

I just found the OPR marriage of my gggg grandparents at SP. On the list of search results, there were two almost identical listings:

1 23/01/1810 MACRAE DONALD CHRISTIAN MACLENNAN/FR134 M Applecross /ROSS AND CROMARTY 058/ 0010 0128

3 23/01/1810 MCRAE DONALD CHRISTIAN MCLENNAN/FR72 M Applecross /ROSS AND CROMARTY 058/ 0010 0066

Any idea why this is? I picked the first one and got the information I needed, but wonder if it might be worth the five credits to look at the other one as well. I looked through the FAQ at SP, but haven't found anything about what the "FR72" and "FR134" mean.

Hi Kathy

I found the same thing on the IGI

Donald Macrae m. Ann Macrae 13 Jan 1825 Lochcarron

Donald Macrae m. Anne Macrae 28 Dec 1820 Lochcarron.

I found only one in the OPR's (the first one) I spoke of it here as I had trouble reading it.

SOURCE INFORMATION has exactly the same numbers.

Lizzie,

Interesting!

The OPR I found is readable, so I'll probably leave it at that, since the dates are the same on both listings.

I wonder if your Macraes and mine are related?

Hi Kathy

i have found two entries for an OPR marriage before, but one was a few days earlier than the other and they were both in different areas of the same county. i know in this case it would have been because the bride came from one place and the groom another so it was registered in both places.

Karen,

I hadn't thought of two separate registrations in two different places. Off to check out the IGI and see what they have about my two listings.

Hi Kathy,

I had a quick peek at these two on SP. The two of them are different. One is in neat handwriting, and the other is a challenge to read. Having read the neat one first, the other one can be deciphered. The challenging one also contains information about the fathers of each of the couple that does not appear on the neat version.

The FR numbers are the frame numbers on the microfilms. These are not always given, but are most often quoted where the OPR is out of sequence to help you find the record if you are using the microfilms. On the microfilm, the frame number is usually in the header section and often difficult to read as it is usually in small print.

All the best,

AndrewP

Andrew,

Thanks for looking. The idea of information about the fathers - a brand new generation in my search - is too tempting. I'll have to buy more credits and have a look. ;)
