I need some help to save records please

Post by Brenda » Mon Mar 19, 2007 4:50 am

Hi Everyone,

I chose the direct download method to view records at SP, however, I can't save them to my PC...when I click on "File" to get to "save" , save is not there!

My printer is stuffed and I want to send the records to my husband at work so he can print them for me.

So I clicked on "send to mail recipient" , when I did the whole thing came out in double dutch.
Any ideas?

Hi Brenda:

I've just been on to SP and tried a direct download of one of my records. I was able to click on the open document and download it without a problem. I also tried to send one by e-mail and it took the direction and sent it off. I've not received it yet, so can't verify that it showed up in good form.

I'll try to give some suggestions, but maybe you've already tried them.

Have you checked what method of file transfer you have in 'My Details'? If it is set to Direct Download, you should be getting it alright, but since you aren't you could change it to JavaScript and see if that works better.

There is a note on SP in the technical information section advising of some problems with ActiveX, so if 'My Details' file transfer is set to ActiveX you could change it to JavaScript or Direct Download.

The other things I would try:
* logging off and then logging on to the SP site again, in case things just didn't make all the right connections
* re-boot your computer
* check the Technical Information on SP to see if anything there strikes a note

Hope this helps,
Frances

Hi Brenda,

I am guessing that you are referring to OPR images. As the census and bmd images are in a TIF format, another program has to be started to view them and at that stage you are normally asked if you want to view the file or save it (should be no problem there).

The OPR images are a different ball game because they are in JPG format. JPG images can be viewed in your internet browser program, so the save or view question is not displayed. One method to save the OPR image is to view it. Then right-click on the image and one of the options that should appear on the context menu should be save picture as. That should allow you to save the OPR image to your hard disk. It can be e-mailed from there. Or also in that context menu, there is the E-mail picture option.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Brenda,

When you click on File, is Edit With (followed by the name of your picture software) an available option? If it is, just use that and save it to your hard disc from there.

If you go to File/Save or File/Save as.. on the web browser menubar when viewing something on a web page, you will save the web page, not the image. Use Andrew's suggestion above:
right-click on the image and one of the options that should appear on the context menu should be save picture as. That should allow you to save the OPR image to your hard disk.
Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks to everyone who replied to my query.
I am a computer eejit, 'cause I still can't work out what I'm doing wrong.

I can view the Statutory Records ok, but can't save them to my hard drive. I don't have picture software.

Usually when I want to save something I just click on File, then save / save as, but when I try to save the record "Save/ Save as" is unavailable.

The browser, [Internet Explorer ]has an icon for mail, however when I press "send" the text is in another language..absolute gibberish

Saving a file

Post by v_b_gael_h » Fri Sep 28, 2007 2:46 am

Brenda, I don't know if this will help you or not, but I tried this on my husband's computer (an XP 2000).

I paid the viewing amount and was given the document to view. I tapped the document and received a 'save/save as' which opened up the documents. We then designated a file 'Genealogy' and in it went. We did this same procedure to burn it to disc.

My computer is the newer version with Vista which makes things somewhat easier; once you figure out vista.

Brenda,

On the page which gives you the information on the file that you want to open e.g.

SMITH JOHN (Statutory Deaths 625/01 0192) 90Kb

Right click on this and then click "Save Target As", you can then save your file.

Hope this helps.
