SP Free Surname Search

Hi all
I was just told something that amazed me. The free surname search on SP does not seem to return results for the 1871 census. For example the surname Sutherland. Enter it for 1871-1871 and you get results of all the records but none for the 1871 census. Alternatively enter it for 1881-1881 and you get thousands.....and likewise for 1891 etc. Why is this?????

Hi Jean,I don't know the reason why but I also tried it with my Johnstones and had the same results.For some reason it would seem that the 1871 census is not included in the free name search. :?

Looking for ...but not limited to Haldane ,Keir ,McLauchlan ,Walker ,Torrance , Reid ,Clark ,Johnstone ,Holmes ,Laurie ,Lawrie ,Strachan , McIlwee ,Welsh ,Queate ,Stewert ,McNight ,Steele ,Cockburn ,Young ....whew! That's more than enough for now.

Hi Jean and Heather,

I just typed in Ferguson and had the same results....nothing for 1871. Apparently 1871 census isn't included in the free search......hmmm wonder why?

I suspect, and have to emphasize that it's only a suspicion, and not based on hard info, that adding in the 1871 to this free search is on the GROS/SoL action list, but a long way down, near the bottom, and long after all the actions required to get the new-improved-washes-whiter- shining-white redesigned site up and running :!: :roll:
